2019-02-26 11.33.17-2A Melding is taking place

Leader of Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer and Chair of Christians Together in Chelmsford, David Gilbey writes:

Ever since Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer began, I have had a clear sense that it was all about the Christians of our City coming together. The Church, not simply The Churches in Chelmsford.

In 2015, I believed one of my first tasks was to connect with the then Churches Together in Chelmsford group, and immediately a positive relationship was birthed, that has continued to grow and develop.

When, in May 2018, I felt led to stand to be Chair of Christians Together in Chelmsford, (name changed in 2016), I knew without a doubt that part of the journey would be in some way, to see a ‘melding’ of the two organisations. That journey is underway.

I am certain that the regular Prayer Spaces and Prayer Walks that I felt God tell us to facilitate over the last three or so years, around the churches of the City, have played a crucial role to sow and nurture the seeds of unity and love, for what God is now putting into place. But over recent months, these seem to have naturally diminished and by next month, we will be left with just two regular Prayer Spaces in the Cathedral, on the 1st  and 3rd Wednesdays.

Behold I do a new thing!

In the last few months, we have opened up what was a prayer meeting specifically for Chelmsford 24-7 supporters, to the whole City – in firm partnership with CTiC.

Prayer for our City is a monthly meeting on the 4th Thursday each month, at The Church of the Holy Spirit, Forest Drive, Chelmsford. Everyone is now welcome – all who want to see The Kingdom of God come to our City and Nation.

Chelmsford  – a Kingdom City

Town signChelmsford is no longer, as in its history, a provincial market town, but since 2012, a City – one that has a God given purpose and destiny.

Since the beginning of 2019, I believe that The Lord has started to reveal vision and strategy for our City as a place where The things of the Kingdom of God can be known and found, by all in our region and nation.

This is a bold assertion and those leading both Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer and CTiC are taking careful steps, one at a time, to listen to God further and in conjunction with other Christian leaders here, to see what this might mean.

We are in exciting times and we must, similar as in the Bible book of Revelation, listen to what The Spirit is saying to to The Church in Chelmsford  -and act accordingly!

More will gradually be revealed!

So, the organisation, and name of Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer will gradually decrease and give way to CTiC.

More about the vision for our City and information relating to Christian activity here, including prayer, will henceforth appear at, rather than on this website.

A tremendous thank you to all who have been on the journey with Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer. We pray you will continue it with us. alongside, literally as Christians together in Chelmsford.

At the Gate of the Year

At the Gate of the Year

New Year message from Chelmsford 24-7 Leader and Chair of Christians Together in Chelmsford (CTiC), David Gilbey (also published on the website of CTiC –

KIng George VI Christmas speechSo we stand here again, the tipping point between all that has been in 2018 and all that the New Year will bring. Looking back, how much of what took place during the twelve months could you have honestly predicted? Not very much I suspect… who knows what 2019 will hold!

In 1939, with Great Britain at war, and with a very unknown future ahead for the United Kingdom, King George VI spoke the following words at the end of his Christmas message to the Nation:

I feel that we may all find a message of encouragement in the lines which, in my closing words, I would like to say to you:

I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year,

“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”

And he replied, “Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the hand of God.

That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way.”

May that Almighty Hand guide and uphold us all.

The King had taken the words from a poem called, ‘God Knows’, published in 1908 by a Christian lady, Minnie Haskins – to read the entire poem – click here.

Prayer and Miracles delivered the Nation

dunkirk-news-articleDuring the World Wars, national prayer and miraculous intervention from God is said to have won us battles and saved countless lives.  (You can find links with evidence for this below). If so, it would not be unreasonable to conject, that for both Wars, this resulted in ultimate victory for the Allied forces.

The most well known miracle occurred just a few months after King George’s Christmas speech, when on 26 May 1940, he called a national day of prayer. Following this, against all odds well over 300,000 British troops were rescued at Dunkirk.

The Battle for Britain

Armour of GodIt seems to me that at the end of this year, the UK is once again at war; at war with itself, a civil war of strife and division and disunity. Brexit seems to have brought the whole thing boiling to the surface!

Even The Church in our nation has, in part at least, become embroiled in the battle – opinion against opinion – brother against brother!

Believers in Jesus, we need to open our eyes! Not just our physical ones, as we will simply continue to stumble into the unknown, but to open wide our spiritual eyes!

The conflict we face is orchestrated by our spiritual enemy – Satan – he wants the ‘soul’ of Great Britain, but we must battle him for it AND AGAIN WE HAVE THE MEANS TO VICTORY!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. – Ephesians 6:12

We must do what it says in verse 13:

Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Wartime Miracles and a National Scandal Leaflet

Earlier in 2018, a church minister who is known to me, and who uses the name, Pastor John, was led by The Lord to produce and distribute nationwide, 25,000 copies, of a leaflet he wrote, by email and post called, Wartime Miracles and a National Scandal.

John said:

The Wartime Miracles Leaflet has a dual purpose. Firstly, it teaches how the Lord dramatically delivered the UK during the Second World War in direct response to those who prayed in humility and repentance. Secondly, it calls upon the people of today to equally approach Him in humility and repentance, pleading for His deliverance from the National dangers we are increasingly facing.

It shows clearly “this is what the Lord did for the previous generation and He can do it again for this generation, if approached in a spirit of humility and repentance.” The Wartime Miracles Leaflet is therefore a clarion call for nationwide intercessory prayer.

Will you take up that Call?

2019 – Take God’s Hand and step forward in faith

Hand-in-darkness.jpgIt is surely time to stand up and move out! Remind yourself of your ‘battle orders’ by reading the full passage regarding the Armour of God, in Ephesians 6: 10-20 – particularly verse 18:

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

And, Pray without ceasing – 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

Let us turn from division and disunity, come together ‘As One’, and each putting our hand in the Hand of God, step with Him, in faith and confidence, into the unknown of 2019.

May God Bless and keep you throughout the year – the Battle belongs to The Lord!

Chelmsford 24-7 and Christians Together in Chelmsford – A New Thing!

A Message from Chelmsford 24-7 leader and Chair of Christians Together in Chelmsford (CTiC), David Gilbey:

A New Thing

‘See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?’ Isaiah 43:19

Since 2015, I have worked amongst the churches and Christian organisations of our City, firstly through Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer and now also as Chair of CTiC. With increasing clarity, I perceive that The Lord’s heart is for all of us within The Church in Chelmsford, regardless of denomination and tradition, to increasingly journey with Him together, ‘As One’. (See John, Chapter 17).

I see a growing oneness developing amongst the Believers of our City. Traditional differences are almost visibly melting away, as our mutual love for Jesus and our desire to spread the ‘Good News’ of the gospel gives us a unity not just in name, but through genuine relationship and friendship.

As the ‘new thing’ The Lord is doing emerges, CTiC, together with Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer are exploring how we can better serve and have even closer relationships with the City’s Christian community. Our ultimate desire and goal is to see the name of Jesus lifted up and made famous throughout Chelmsford!

May God bless you as together we endeavour to serve Him – do continue to pray for these things to take place.

Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer into the future

(This post was previously published in our recent email News Update on 5th November)

Future past sign postAs you may be aware, at the end of May this year and after a last minute prompting from The Lord, I stood and was elected Chair of Christians Together in Chelmsford (CTiC). I had strongly felt for sometime that the bonds between Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer and CTiC should become closer, but how that would work in practice was initially unclear.

At the same time, and since the end of 2017, wearing my other ‘hat’, as Coordinator of Call the Nation to Prayer (CTNTP), I had been heading up a Team who, on 29th September, organised an event called , As One’  – two linked gatherings in the Coventry area. ‘As One’, a day of prayer and declaration, took place to ‘release’ revival prophecy upon the UK – It was an amazing time, some from Chelmsford attended  – read all about it here on the CTNTP website –

Whilst ‘As One’ was taking shape, the direction was also emerging locally for the future relationship of Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer and CTiC. It was initially wondered if the two should merge, but was eventually decided that although the two will remain ‘on paper’ as separate organisations, Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer will be the ‘prayer arm’ of CTiC!

Naturally, heading up both organisations – and with Sue Gibson, the 24-7 Prayer, Prayer Support Coordinator also on the CTiC Committee – there were always going to be overlaps between the two and there continues to be a growing continuity in our direction and purpose.

There is an emerging sense too, just as in the national ‘As One’ gatherings, that The Lord is also leading the Christians in our City into greater unity. As a result, The Kingdom of God is definitely advancing in Chelmsford!

This is all very much still an ‘unknown path’; but one that is being navigated by careful but with deliberate steps of Faith. Our mutual love of Jesus is drawing each of us together on a new journey of developing relationships and friendships, rather than simply plans and agendas.

Do bear with us and pray for The Holy Spirit to continue to guide.

Oh, and do come along to our new open to all, Prayer for Our City meetings – next 22nd November – click here for details.
