‘Jesus Christ calls every person to follow him. As Christians it’s our duty and joy to share that invitation. That’s why the Archbishops of Canterbury and York are inviting every church in England to join a week of prayer this Pentecost, from 8-15 May 2016 — let’s pray for every Christian to receive new confidence and joy in sharing this life-transforming faith.’

This was the call on the website, thykingdom.co.uk concerning the nationwide prayer for evangelism initiative.

This was not just for those in the Church of England and every Christian in our Nation was encouraged to become involved. It was about the members of The Church in the United Kingdom stepping up to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, in the life changing power of the Holy Spirit.

24 hours of Prayer at the Cathedral

Nationally, the 24-7 Prayer movement was involved, and locally in partnership with
Chelmsford Cathedral, from 6 pm Tuesday 10th to 6 pm Wednesday 11th May,  we held 24 hours of prayer.

We set up up our portable Prayer Space, in St. Peter’s Chapel, within the Cathedral, and around seventy-six people came along either having signed up for one hour or more, or who simply dropped-in.

There was a wonderful atmosphere of the presence of Holy Spirit throughout, but particularly noticable during the hours from late evening and into early morning, when all was still. A few people simply wandered in, initially unaware it seemed of exactly what was happening, but then sat in the body of the building, soaking up the peace and presence of God.

Most intentionally engaged with praying over England and indeed for our City and we know that those prayers added to the ‘Great Wave of Prayer’ that went up over the Nation from it’s four corners. May the Kingdom of God Come to England.

Interestingly, and maybe prophetically, outside in the Cathedral grounds, there were a number of flower beds with tulips growing – red and yellow – which seemed to represent fire, the fire of the Holy Spirit?
